This paper documents the proceedings of a colloquy on ‘Ireland in the Year 2000’, organised by An Foras Forbartha and the National Board for Science and Technology. Twelve speakers, each an authority in a particular field, were invited to explore policy options open to the Irish people for the next two decades and to identify primary areas of research necessary to underpin these policies. The event took place in Kilkea Castle in February 1980.
