This Planning Division Working Paper of an Observation Study of Housing Estate Elements by R. Mulvihill is a study investigating aspects of housing estates related to the pedestrian precinct or residential yard concept, as outlined in the report Streets for Living by An Foras Forbartha in 1976.

Aspects included were fencing and condition of front gardens, spatial distribution of children, and car parking. Cul-de-sac and non cul-de-sac in seven private and five local authority estates (consisting of nearly one thousand houses) were selected for observation. The paper contains conclusions or recommendations of a provisional nature only, and should be regarded only as a stage in the research process.
